hello night animals
one thing you are is beautiful
one thing you are not is alone

Transgender people have in recent years become a highly scrutinized minority in America. Our persecution however is not a recent phenomenon. Gender-expansive people and bodies have been detested, feared and ridiculed by western thought for hundreds of years, although trans people have existed as long as the concept of gender.
As our country and our world crawls dedicatedly towards the alt right, we find ourselves cast into the spotlight, scapegoated for the political agenda of people who will never meet us. Transsexual healthcare is getting stripped away out of the fear and ignorance of legislators who pretend to care about children they don’t care about. Our stories, our history, our education, erased through the banning of books. Every node on the spectrum between “male” and “female” condemned, the documentation of their existences banned. Children, teenagers and adults are getting pushed over suicide’s edge because for them, there is no life without their medicine. Many of us are afraid to go outside, many of us face hate crimes weekly, possibly more. Trans, tranny, a trans, transgender, words  on the lips of thousands, maybe tens of thousands, maybe millions of people. It’s easy to feel alone when all their words ache of hatred and misunderstanding.
But you know you are not hated, not truly. For all the millions who do not understand you, there are millions who do. Do not forget this.
You are the angels, you see a world of free air to breathe. A world of laughing, bright blue stars and eyelashes to make a wish. A light shines inside you, it does not matter if others can’t see it, you see it, we see it. Our lives are as delicate and everlasting as moth wings in the night air. My skin is the same as  your skin, and all our skin is warm. In our chests beats the memory of those we live on for. If we may do one thing, anything at all in silent vigil, let it be to hold our hands in togetherness, across the country, across the world, and remind each other that we are all still breathing. Let us remind each other not only of the pain we share, but of the love we build every day.
Our love will never die.
